When a Gaggenau dishwasher finishes with water still standing in the base, or throws a drain-related error, the drain cycle did not move the water out. On these machines, as on their Bosch-family siblings, the drain path is a filter, a sump, a hose, and a pump, and a blockage at any point stops the water. Most causes are at the easy end of that path.
Follow the Water Out
Begin at the filter in the base of the tub, the most common blockage and the easiest to clear. Below it the sump can hold debris, glass, or a lost seed or pit that never made it to the pump. The drain hose behind the machine can kink or clog, and the sink connection, the air gap or a new disposer knockout, can block the discharge. The drain pump itself can jam on a hard object.
| Cause | How to Check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Clogged filter | Twist out and inspect | Rinse and refit |
| Debris in the sump | Look below the filter | Clear it out |
| Kinked or clogged hose | Check behind the machine | Straighten or clear |
| Jammed drain pump | Object in the impeller | Clear the pump |
| Air-gap or disposer block | Check the sink side | Clear the air gap or knockout |
When to Call
If the filter, hose, sump, and sink connection are clear and it still will not drain, the pump or a control fault needs testing. Our Gaggenau maintenance guide covers filter care that prevents this, and our oven error-code guide covers Gaggenau ovens.
