Monogram Oven F-Codes Explained

Monogram is built on GE's control platform, so it uses the familiar GE F-code family. Here is what F2, F3, and F7 mean and which need a technician.

Because Monogram is GE's luxury line, its ovens speak in the GE F-code family, which is among the best documented in the industry. That makes a Monogram oven code fairly readable: F2 for an over-temperature condition, F3 for an oven sensor fault, and F7 for a stuck key are the ones we see most. Knowing which is which tells you whether a reset might help or whether a part needs testing.

The Common Monogram F-Codes

CodeTypical MeaningWhat We Do
F2Oven over-temperatureTest sensor and relay for a stuck contact
F3Oven temperature sensor openOhm-test the sensor, replace if out of range
F7Stuck key on the controlClean the panel, service if it persists
F0 / F1Control or communication faultPower cycle, then test the control

Reading Them Safely

F3 is one of the most common and most fixable: the oven temperature sensor reads open or out of range, so we test it against specification and replace it if it fails. F2 over-temperature deserves more caution, because it can mean a relay is sticking closed and letting the element keep heating, which is a safety concern rather than something to reset and ignore. F7 points to the keypad. A single power cycle is worth trying for a transient code.

An F2 over-temperature is a safety matter. Because F2 can indicate a relay stuck closed, it should be diagnosed rather than repeatedly reset. We test the sensor and the relay to make sure the element is not being allowed to over-heat.

When to Call

A code that returns after a power cycle, an F2 over-temperature, or an oven that will not heat needs a technician with a meter. Our Monogram maintenance guide covers keeping the sensor clean, and our refrigeration guide covers Monogram cooling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Does F3 Mean on a Monogram Oven?
F3 means the oven temperature sensor is reading open or out of range, so the control stops heating. It is a common and fixable fault. We ohm-test the sensor against GE specification and replace it if it fails, which restores accurate temperature control and clears the code.
Is a Monogram F2 Code Serious?
F2 signals an over-temperature condition, which can be a faulty sensor or a relay sticking closed and letting the element keep heating. Because a stuck relay is a safety concern, an F2 that returns after a power cycle should be diagnosed by a technician rather than reset and used.
How Do I Clear a Monogram F7 Code?
F7 indicates a stuck key on the control panel. Cycle the oven's power at the breaker and clean around the keypad. If F7 returns, the touch panel or control board has a fault and needs to be serviced rather than reset.
