Wolf Range Burner Not Igniting

A Wolf burner that clicks without lighting is one of the most common calls we get, and it is often the simplest to fix. Here is how to work through it from cleaning to a model-specific igniter fault.

When a Wolf sealed burner clicks but will not light, the cause is usually spillover or a misseated cap, not a failed part. Wolf burners light from a spark igniter beside each burner, and anything that fouls or wets that igniter, or a burner cap sitting slightly off, breaks the spark path. Work through the simple causes first and most burners come right back.

Start with Cleaning and Seating

Lift off the burner cap and clean the igniter tip and the burner ports. Boil-over leaves residue that bridges the spark gap, and a cap that is wet or set down crooked stops a burner from lighting even with a healthy spark. Dry everything, clear the ports, and set the cap squarely. This resolves a large share of clicking-burner calls.

When It Is More Than Cleaning

If one burner will not light while the others spark and light normally, the igniter for that burner may be weak or the wiring loose. If none of the burners spark, the shared spark module or its power may be the issue. And a burner that lights but will not stay lit can point to a valve or gas-flow problem rather than the igniter.

Clean and dry before you replace. The most common cause of a clicking Wolf burner is a fouled igniter or a wet, misseated cap. Cleaning and re-seating is free and fixes it more often than not, so we always start there.

When to Call

If cleaning and re-seating do not restore the burner, or if no burners spark, testing the igniter, spark module, and valves calls for a technician. Never force a burner that smells of gas; shut it off and call. Our Wolf maintenance guide covers keeping burners clean, and our oven fault guide covers the oven side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Does My Wolf Burner Keep Clicking but Not Light?
The spark igniter is usually fouled by spillover or wet, or the burner cap is out of position, breaking the spark path. Clean and dry the igniter and cap and set the cap squarely. If it still clicks without lighting, that burner's igniter or the spark module needs testing.
Should I Replace the Igniter Myself?
Cleaning and re-seating the cap is safe to do yourself and fixes most cases. Replacing an igniter or working on the spark module and gas valves involves electrical and gas components and is best left to a technician, both for safety and to fit the correct Genuine OEM Parts.
My Wolf Burner Lights Then Goes Out. What Is Wrong?
A burner that lights but will not stay lit often points to a gas-flow or valve issue rather than the igniter, or to a flame-sensing problem on some designs. If cleaning does not help, have the valve and flame stability checked rather than continuing to relight it.
